Freedom

You only have one freedom that matters, freedom of Your mind

Why does this matter? Let me explain...

People have many ideas about what freedom is and what it means. Almost as many idea exist about how the mind works, how much control you have over your thoughts and if your thoughts do or do not create your life.

What do you want in 2017?

new year's resolutions
This post is about how you get what you desire.

You might be sitting there thinking “I do not bother with New Year’s Resolutions or trying to make changes as they never work”.

One of the main reasons why people find it hard to make changes is that they unconsciously, or even consciously, sabotage themselves.

Do you recognise this?  Do you sometimes, or often, sabotage yourself?

The reason why people sabotage themselves is because they do not really want to change!

This is perfectly understandable and a natural response, so stay with me while I explain why you may do this and how you can stop doing it.

Mind Nutrition Exercise
Have you ever found following a diet rather stressful? One diet is not working, so you try another. You join the gym, but you don’t really want to give up your free time for it and it’s expensive. You read every ‘healthy eating’ article you can find, but it’s overwhelming as there are so many different views. Maybe you even spend money on a consultation with a dietician.

Vanda Scaravelli
Since I have arrived in Lisbon, I have been taking Portuguese class every week. Recently, my teacher asked me to write about (in Portuguese of course) why I practice Scaravelli inspired Yoga. Many corrections, changes and additions of all the right conjunctions later (thanks to my very patient teacher), this little article was the result...

Chocolate Coconut Bliss Balls

Bliss balls
These tasty bliss balls give lots of energy for yoga, surfing and playing in the water... happy summertime!

Ingredients:
  • 100g nuts (walnuts, almonds or pecan nuts)
  • 75g raisins
  • 1 tsp ground flaxseed
  • 1 tsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp agave syrup, molasses or honey
  • 50g coconut desiccated
  • 2 tsp nutella (for more fun) or peanut butte

Put nuts in a food processor and blitz to crumbs. Add raisins, peanut butter/nutella, flaxseeds, cocoa powder and agave syrup/molasses, then pulse to combine.

Shape mixture into golf ball-sized balls and roll in desiccated coconut to coat. Put in the fridge to firm for 20 mins, then eat whenever you need a quick energy boost.

For the perfect result you can let the mixture rest in the fridge first for at least one hour before you shape the balls.

This recipe makes 8 servings. Put bites into tupperware and they will keep for at least one week in the fridge.

Yoga & Surfing

Yoga and surfing
I came to surfing when I was 25 in Brazil. I wanted to get in touch with the feeling my boyfriend was talking about, I could see the passion in his eyes twinkling whenever he spoke about riding a wave.

So I rented a big foam surfboard and wetsuit and paddled into the waist deep water as I was instructed. There were no real waves, but I would have a go at any whitewash that came by. I didn't manage to stand up once, but I was hooked and desperate to have another go… I didn't leave the water for 5 hours. I played in the water and let my inner child out until it was dark.

My back story or I've got your back

Bel Janela
I get contacted quite a bit by people who heard I might be able to help them with their back problems. Because of my own story it’s an area of yoga therapeutics that I put some focus on. And today I want to share my story with you.

I used to be a Hip Hop dancer and I taught fitness classes for many years. Dancing was my biggest passion. Jazz dance, Ballet, Contemporary, Street dance and of course Hip Hop. I loved it all and would dance for hours every day. Eventually I blew my back out for the first time. My lower back was on fire adding to my already existing scoliosis in my lumber spine. Some weeks and quite a few visits to a physiotherapist later I was apparently fine and dancing again.

Thai Massage
Quando se trabalha como terapeuta de Massagem Thai Yoga muitas vezes temos a necessidade de explicar o que fazemos realmente. É um bom ponto de partida para começar, antes de falarmos sobre a viagem de transformação que pode ser.

Working as a Thai Yoga Massage therapist, you often need to explain what you actually do. So that’s a good place to start before talking about the transformational journey it can be.
