Qi-Gong Retreat in Portugal ~ with Pierre-François Resta
You are warmly welcomed to join this special Qi Gong retreat, a week of wellbeing and vitality. The 5-day programme will introduce the practice of sensory Qi Gong to help you develop awareness of your center, also called the ‘dantian’, and your perception of the Qi, the life force energy within your own body, your movement and your touch. In this course you will learn to cultivate the fluidity in your own movement, to draw from the elements and energy of nature, to develop your sense of touch in connection with your centre and your intention, to discover the Qi and how to work with it, and explore the use of percussion and vibration.
You will also discover and practice the forms of MaWangDui to help you harmonise the 12 meridians corresponding to the 12 main organs of the body. This will allow you to deepen your Qi Gong practice and find a self-healing and balancing path for yourself.
Practice is offered in individual guided exercises, as well as in numerous partner-exercises to deepen your experience and understanding of the practice.
Qi Gong is an ancient Chinese holistic health system, including movement, self-massage, breathing, energy cultivation and meditation. By opening the physical body (opening the joints, stretching muscle groups) the corresponding energy gates and meridians are simultaneously unlocked so the Qi, energy, can flow more freely. When directed with conscious intent, the Qi can be used for our vitality, to raise body and energy awareness, reach deeper meditative states and experience interconnectedness with our Essence, others and nature.
Is this retreat for you?
The retreat is designed to offer you the essence of Qi Gong practice and the dimension of energy cultivation and cosmic consciousness. The practice can offer beautiful support particularly for bodyworkers (working in any modality) to enhance their understanding of the holistic healing methods, the energetic body, the essence and cultivation of touch through heightened awareness within their own body and consciousness. An opportunity to learn how not to absorb the negative energies of clients and how to draw in the energy of nature not to exhaust yourself giving treatments.
People new to Qi Gong are welcomed, as well as experienced practitioners, bodyworkers, other holistic healers, or artists/dancers.

About Casa Shanti
Casa Shanti is located in the idyllic region of Mafra, surrounded by ancient volcanic formations and rich countryside. Restored from old ruins, it offers many traditional features and is set amongst gardens and terraces with leafy trees, flower ornaments and small biological agriculture crops. A little oasis of nature inviting you to connect with the energy of the earth.
The outdoor space is ideal for relaxing, enjoying the sunshine or a dip in the pool. The surrounding area offers wonderful opportunities for exploring and walking.
Accommodation is on a shared basis (three or four people per room) in various little houses, decorated in a harmonious fusion of different cultures. Each house has one or two bathrooms and a small communal space.
The delicious food is prepared under macrobiotic principles and at the end of June most of the fruit and vegetables will come from their own garden.
On one of the days we will have the afternoon ‘off’, so you are free to explore the area. We can organise a trip to the beach or to Sintra, or you can go for an extended walk or simply enjoy some time by the pool.
Throughout the week, a massage therapist will be available for treatments.
Pierre-François (from France) has been practicing Qi Gong and Tai Chi over 35 years. While studying percussion at the conservatory in Rotterdam, Pierre discovered movement practices and movement meditation. Deeply fascinated, he continued to study movement and contemporary dance, before discovering Qi Gong and Tai Chi. With practice he grew to perceive an unexpected phenomenon in his body, a coherence, a sense of unity and an innate intelligence of the body to self-balance in the movement, to organise around the center. The relationship with the energy of the earth and gravity enriched and completely transformed his awareness of the body and the use of percussion instruments as well.
After completing his musical studies, he started teaching percussion at the Conservatoire of Dijon and developed a specific approach combining the techniques of Qi Gong with instrumental practice. He also began to create drumsticks, mallets and percussion instruments in connection with this approach. It was at the age of 40 that he decided to sell this company and devoted himself fully to the practice and teaching of Qi Gong and Thai massage, which he finds have many similarities.
In 2008, he resumed a Qi Gong training at Temps Corps in Paris with several Chinese teachers, including Ke Wen, Liu Ya Fei, Yan Li Wang.
