Whether you are new to Pilates and want to build a strong foundation or you already have experience and would like to go back to the basic principles of the method, this class is for you.
In this Mat Work Class we will pay attention to the key principles of the BASI Pilates Method: breath, concentration, centre, control, precision and flow. After a short warm-up to heighten body awareness, we practice Pilates exercises in standing, sitting or lying down, focusing on our alignment, breathing patterns and the engagement of the core muscles. There will be time to explore and embody each exercise’s specificity, with reference to anatomical anchor points as well as imagery.
To finish off we will stretch particular muscle groups and take a moment to find relaxation.

Nesta aula de Mat Work vamos dar atenção aos princípios chave do método BASI Pilates: a respiração, a concentração, o centro do corpo, o controlo, a precisão e o flow. Em seguida à um breve aquecimento para acionar a consciência do corpo, praticamos exercícios de pé, sentados e deitados, focando-nos no nosso alinhamento, nos padrões de respiração e na ativação dos músculos do nosso centro. Vai haver tempo para explorar e abordar a especificidade de cada exercício, com referência aos pontos chave da anatomia bem como através de imagens explicativas. Acabamos a aula com alongamentos e um momento de relaxamento.

Pilates is a holistic technique which was invented by Joseph Pilates. It combines breathing and movement which allows your body to lengthen and to find its way back to its natural alignment.
As every movement is connected with the breath, the Pilates method also invites the body to become more subtle and gives it positive input. You will feel the benefits, even if you are not in pain. This beginners course will introduce the Pilates system and offers you the possibility to detect and change daily postural habits that are often the cause for tension.

If you are new to Yoga and would like to understand the energetic principles behind this practice a little better, this course offers a great introduction for you. Learn about the dynamics and influence of the 7 Chakras and how Yoga can help us bring them into balance. Explore the more subtle layers of your and learn how to connect with your own energy. Drawing from the yogic philosophy of the Chakras as well as their application in western psychology, we will look at how different tensions are created in body, mind and soul and how we can use Asanas (Yoga poses), Pranayama (breathing exercises) and other yogic practices to release that tension.
