Yoga & Somatics for back pain ~ with Katrin Heuser
Thursdays, 11h-12h - at the studio and online
Are you suffering from back pain and would love to have a self-practice to help you manage or even fully get rid of it? Maybe it even feels like you simply want your life back?
What's going on in your back? There could be a number of reasons, why your back is not happy:

Many people I work with, who have persistent back pain, secretly suspect that it comes from the weight of the stories they carry around with them.
Whether that is the actual case or not, dealing with persistent pain can get very frustrating and overwhelming. So we start by grounding, exploring our personal comfortable space, and with tools to help regulate our nervous system.
And then, we explore the following:
Whether that is the actual case or not, dealing with persistent pain can get very frustrating and overwhelming. So we start by grounding, exploring our personal comfortable space, and with tools to help regulate our nervous system.
And then, we explore the following:
- techniques, movements and sequences that help to alleviate the tension and pain patterns that have been building up over time
- how to re-establish communication and vitality in the whole body
- how to create a sense of spaciousness and lightness
- how to maintain better structural support
- how to regain mobility and stability
- and potentially recover from an injury with more ease
A slow therapeutic practice will allow you to undo the painful holding and redevelop your innate strength.
Let's wake up and restore a healthier functioning in the spine and get a spring back into your step! The approach of this course is based on a therapeutic foundation drawing from Eastern movement practices like Yoga and Qi Gong, embodiment, somatics, osteopathic principles as well as neuroscience. From my experience as a bodyworker as well as dealing with my own scoliosis, I strongly believe that the human body is designed for healing. I always look for ways to change the narrative of the stories that dictate our lives, from a story of pain and problems, to a story of healing and balance. I developed scoliosis as a teenager, and now look at my own spine as my greatest teacher. |
This class is for you, if...
- you are willing and able to make the time for your practice - at least one class per week plus one self-practice
- you bring a lot of patience. You have probably had this back pain for some time, and it might take a little while to improve
- you are willing to look at the circumstances surrounding the back pain
- you are committed to take control of your own health
- you are ok with possible frustration coming up
- you are interested to learn what's actually going on in the body
If you are however more into finding a quick/magical fix, then this is not the right course for you.
Nourishing the nervous system is also key
To support the healing process of any persistent pain, we also need to take care of our Nervous System.
In conjunction with the Yoga & Somatics for back pain class, you might also like to try Restorative Yoga & Somatics to de-compress on Wednesdays, 18h30-19h30.
This class offers an opportunity to calm and regulate the nervous system. An antidote to the modern lifestyle stresses. The practice begins with some gentle movement to help you come back into a felt sense of the body, and ends with some Restorative Yoga poses for a profound relaxation. The motto of this class is un-doing.
