Last month’s topic of our Monthly Mat Chats was provided by the wonderful Marie, one of our Yoga teachers. Mind-body connection is a fundamental aspect of our wellbeing as it's the vital link between our mental and physical states. Whether through practices like yoga, mindfulness, or simply tuning into your sensations, nurturing the mind-body connection can be crucial to our emotional and physical stability. It becomes a fundamental need for our nervous system’s health and a happy mind, so to know how and when to incorporate these practices is key. We all have those days when the world feels a bit too heavy, when stress and anxiety threatens to steal our joy. This is entirely normal and a part of the human experience. Practices aimed to nurture your mind and body are more important and crucial than ever - yoga, for example, can become your reliable companion during such times.
Here are some tips on how to use your practice when your are feeling low… Morning Hugs: Start with a few gentle stretches right in bed, like a cozy hug for your body. Gradually transition to your mat. Blanket Burritos: Ever tried a "blanket burrito" pose? Wrap yourself up like a snug caterpillar, breathe, and feel your worries unravel. Flow with Feelings: Engage in a gentle, mindful flow that truly acknowledges your present state. Every movement becomes a chance to release built-up tension. You might like to put on a playlist you love, close your eyes, and allow your breath and body to flow with the rhythm of the music. The Sacred Savasana: End your practice with an extra-long, extra-loving Savasana. You might find extra comfort in putting one hand onto your belly and one hand onto your heart. Tuning into the gentle rhythm of your breath can help to find a sense of calm and connection within. Yoga meets you where you are, offering a nurturing space for self-compassion even on difficult days. It's your reminder that self-care isn't selfish; it's necessary.
